The Latest News with the ACT If youve been paying attention to news coming out of the college entrance exam world in the last several years, youve probably noticed that the headlines have largely focused on the redesign of the SAT. So, what about the ACT? Here are some of the latest happenings regarding the ACT college admissions exam and what your teen needs to know: New test date Beginning in 2018, students can take the ACT test in the summer (starting with the July 2018 test date). This increases the number of national ACT test dates from six to seven. Because the ACT is offered primarily at local high schools across the country, which are closed during the summer months, the July ACT tests centers will likely be located on college and university campuses. For your teen, this change is significant for several reasons: The July ACT offers an opportunity to use the early part of summer break (assuming students get out of school in June) to study for the July ACT instead of squeezing ACT prep into the school year. The July date means that your test taker can easily take the ACT twice before early-admission college deadlines, which are often in early November. The new date means a wider variety of testing opportunities for college-bound students. Score report changes In September 2016, the ACT made several enhancements to its test reports that students receive with their scores. Heres a summary of what changed: Redesigned paper reports that are more visually engaging and offer more meaningful insights about students test results. Reporting categories only (for English, math, reading and science) but no more subject subscores (for algebra/coordinate geometry, for example). Readiness ranges that enable students to see how their performance on reporting categories compares to students who have met college readiness benchmarks for specific subjects. More reporting categories that share information like total number of points possible, total number of points achieved, and percentage of points correct. Additional indicators to guide students toward potential college majors and careers based on information students include during the test registration process. You are so harmful and so necessary Salt is white death repeats to us the popular media. It causes trouble for kidneys, pancreas and bladder, heart and arteries. But how many thousands of years have people used the salt, how much effort was made to get that white death So it turns out that we can not live without it? We do not. Because it flows through our veins in a   solution. And most human bodys contains about 120 grams of salt. If there is too small amount of it our muscles will not contract, blood will not circulate,  the food will not be digested  and our heart will not beat. However, scientists have still not been able to agree on how much salt in the body should be considered as is too low  and which amount   is too high. Recommended medical standards of salt intake are ranged from 3.5 to 8 grams per day. But our usual salt intake is 1.5-2 times higher than recommended rates. In fact, not only the excess, but the lack of salt causes irreparable harm to health. * Salt is an essential building block for the human body. Each of our cells is   a microscopic ion power plant, and its performance depends on many things, including the presence of salts. * Salt deficiency can lead to depletion of cells, which may result in swelling of the limbs and internal organs, the weakening of the blood pressure. Slowed thought processes, decreases physical activity of the gastro-intestinal tract and biliary ducts. * Salt supports hydro balance in the human body, regulates blood pressure and volume and contributes to the digestive functions. Do not overdo the salt, but do not give up on it altogether. Listen to your body, study its reaction, and everything will be fine, tasty and healthy. And to make it fun  here are some of the uncommon uses of the salt, lifehack tips: * A pinch of salt added to the coffee will improve the taste and remove excessive bitterness. * Add a pinch of salt to the milk and it will stay fresh much longer. * Just peeled apples, pears and potatoes, put into cold salted water, retain their color. * Tea and coffee deposits from the cups are easily removed with a wet sponge with salt.

There are several great ways that students can celebrate Earth day in April, and every day of the year, while learning at the same time.? Basic tips Students can learn about being eco-friendly by doing a visual check of the house before leaving for school. Are all the lights off? Are unused appliances unplugged for the day? These things seem very simple, but its a great way for children to learn about the importance of preserving resources for our planet. Walk instead of drive This is a great way for parents to work on physical education and saving the planet with their children. Parents can take their kids on a short hike on the weekend so that they can see which types of plants thrive in a drought prone environment. Arrange a trip to the nursery Teachers and parents can arrange to take children to the local plant nursery to study different types of botanicals and why some thrive in a desert-like climate, such as Southern California, and why others require additional water and shade (perhaps better suited to a cooler or more humid environment). Additionally, students can each take home a small plant and learn the specific amounts of water it will require to thrive. Parents who want to sneak in a little bit of creativity can bring a camera along for their children to photograph, and later draw, the different botanicals and succulents at the nursery. In short? No matter how teachers and parents choose to share Earth day with their students and children, its important that the younger generations understand the value of our natural resources and the importance of water conservation, recycling, and other ways of being Green in Southern California. Break time One of the best ways to ensure that your exam revision is effective, efficient and manageable, both mentally and physically, is to take regular breaks - no matter how much work you think you need to get done! The simple fact is that your brain is not able to work for a long time without a rest. If you've ever tried working for a whole day without a break, you'll know that doing so actually leads to massively unproductive results. Even if you don't grow tired and lose your concentration - which is the most likely outcome - you'll certainly start suffering from cabin fever! At the same time, you don't want to go the other way and start taking too many breaks. If you spend more than 50 per cent of your day walking in the park or watching TV instead of revising for your GCSEs or A-levels, you're doing something wrong. Conventional wisdom says that you should spend no longer than half an hour in revision before having a break. Breaks should last between five and ten minutes - no longer, otherwise you'll get out of your work rhythm. Try going outside for a short walk if you can, as the air will clear your head. Do take a longer break for lunch and also set a strict cut-off point for the end of your working day. Having the time constraints put on you by breaks and cut-off points helps you to work more efficiently.

Scientists at the National Cancer Institute have the task of researching how human cells are affected by carcinogens, and how these substances are transported in the body, so they can test which drugs can reduce their damaging effects and how they can be prevented from doing so.These researchers, working at the Department of Cancer Research, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Center for Environmental Health, have investigated the causes of skin cancer, heart disease, and a host of other diseases and ailments, as well as the association between environmental factors and them. These studies have helped show that the incidence of certain diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's disease, and even Parkinson's disease, is very closely related to the chemicals that we use every day, the manner in which we handle lead, and the types of foods we eat.The latest research on the many threats of organics is also being undertaken at the University of Washington, where an Associate Professor of Bioengineering is conducting research on how microorganisms affect human beings. This research has had an effect on the pharmaceutical industry, which used to assume that there was nothing wrong with their product, until they learned that it was the microbes in the pharmaceutical products, not the antibiotic medications, which were causing the immune system to attack the body. Instead of treating the microorganisms or bacteria, they needed to develop drugs which attacked the human cells instead, causing damage to the vital organs.
